Little Venice, London
2013
This extension to an Italianate villa in Maida Vale is separated from the main house by a glazed slot. The new modernist wing is arranged to allow the morning, afternoon and evening sunlight into the new kitchen and dining room. Internally, a glass bridge links the new extension to the upper ground-floor entrance hall, and the formal staircase is extended down to access the lower ground floor and the new basement below. The addition contains a new kitchen, double-height dining area and upper-floor study. Extensive use of rooflights brings light in from above and the side, and sliding glass panels open up the dining room to the large garden.
