The rearrangement of a small studio flat to make a transformable two-bedroom apartment. To increase the apparent size, the longer front-to-back dimension is opened up to maximise daylight. A wall of storage is introduced, and the ceiling plane left uninterrupted. Sliding and pivoting panels allow the apartment to be open-plan or subdivided into compartments. A free-standing box containing a fold-down bed creates a second bedroom when the stainless steel kitchen table is folded up. The kitchen worktop can also be folded up to make a route around the kitchen. The use of floor-to-ceiling sliding panels avoids the space taken up with swinging doors. Although only 350 sq ft in area, the alignment of wall planes makes the apartment seem much larger.
