Given an empty rectangular loft space in London’s West End, the challenge was to see if three boxes, a table and a circular glass shower placed in the centre of the floorplan could be used to make a transformable, open-plan space into a two-bedroom apartment with bathroom and cloakroom. Large pivoting doors on two of the boxes swing open to create walls, allowing beds to be pulled down in each bedroom. Full-height doors create the bathroom, the bath being formed out of part of the stainless steel dining table, with an electric glass screen providing privacy. The long storage wall contains the kitchen, utility area, hi-fi and wardrobes. The space can be easily changed each day from an open-plan space to a one- or two-bedroom apartment, depending on the need of the occupier. The transformable arrangement offers the ultimate practicality in the inner city.
